Lawn Maintenance
Robinson Handy and Technology Services offers grass cutting and lawn maintence services for homeowners that live on a quarter-acre or less of property.
Do you offer grass cutting or lawn service?
Yes we do. We offer lawn service and grass cutting from March until November. Invoices are sent after each lawn cut. Before and after photos are available of each cutting upon request. We only service residential properties that are equal to or less than 1/4 (0.25) acre. In addition to lawn mowing, we will trim hedges and shrubs, edge sidewalks and driveways, and place fallen limbs and branches curbside for pickup by your local municipality.
What height should my grass be cut at?
The answer to this depends on the type of grass that you have. As a general rule, most grass can be cut to a height of 2 to 3 inches. Any lower than this, and you risk harming the grass or allowing weeds to take over your lawn.
In the Montgomery and surrounding areas, Bermuda, Centipede, and Fescue grass types are common. Below are the recommended heights that grass should not be cut below.
- Bermuda - 2 inches (5.08 cm)
- Centipede - 2.5 inches (6.25 cm)
- Fescue - 3 inches (7.62 cm)
Is it best to bag clippings or leave them on the lawn?
It is best to leave them on the lawn. The reason being is when grass is cut, the clippings still have the nutrients and vitamins that had been absorbed by the plant. By leaving them in place and allowing them to break down, the clippings act as a fertilizer for the grass and thus will help it to continue to grow.
In addition, the city of Montgomery, and surrounding cities, charge for dump fees for taking items directly to the landfill. By not bagging clippings, avoids having to bag and dispose of the clippings.
I have yard waste or tree debris that need to be cleaned up. Will you haul off these items?
We charge an additional fee for hauling off yard or tree debris.
Most cities in the River Region will pick up these items when they are placed on or next to the curb. Your city or county sanitation department can advise whether this is a service that is offered to your residence or place of business. As part of our grass cutting service, we will place items curbside for you for no additional charge.
Items that were placed curbside are still there weeks later. What should I do?
Contact the Sanitation Department for your local municipality.
- Montgomery residents may call 311, report an issue online, or contact the Sanitation Department.
- Prattville residents may contact the Sanitation Department.
Will you cut my yard while it is wet?
Typically we do not cut grass when the yard is wet. The reason being is that the grass will stick to the insides of the mower. Cutting wet grass has several downsides
- longer time to cut because grass has to be manually removed from the mower as it sticks inside the mower
- not as clean of a cut because of the grass sticking
