Window Blinds Installation

Robinson Handy and Technology Services installs and replaces blinds in your home.

What's the difference between corded blinds and cordless blinds?

Cordless blinds do not have the cords that are used to raise and lower the blinds. Instead springs, tensioners, and other mechanical parts are installed in the top of the blind. To open or close the blind, you physically raise or lower the bottom of the blind to the desired height and let it go. The springs and other components will hold the blind in place where you leave it at.

I have a blind on a door and it bangs on the door when opened and closed? Is there a way to stop this?

There is way to stop the banging. There are items called Blind Hold Downs. They attach to the bottom of the blind. That way when the door is opened or closed, the bottom of the blind will not move, thus will not make a banging or tapping noise. However, with these installed, you will not able to move the blind up or down unless you disconnect it from the Hold Down.

Should the blind go inside the window opening or attach to the trim on the outside of the window?

This depends on the design of the window. Some windows are positioned in a way where the blind can fit inside the window opening. Others are not. Assess your window situation and make your decision based on the style of window, whether there is trim around the window or not, and whether there will be curtains over the window or not.
